Punch Bowl Social Opens in St. Louis Park

A few winters ago I had the distinct pleasure of living in Denver.  When I wasn’t out on the slopes, the Punch Bowl Social was one of my favorite spots (especially for Sunday Bloody Mary bar).

Punch Bowl Social Space

It’s like a giant hipster game room mixed with downtown Chicago Hotel. 24,000 sq feet of stylin’ decor, great food (Southern-American-Gastro), ’80’s arcade games, full-sized bowling alley, a few giant bars, and signature round “social” bar in the main area.

Karaoke “chambers” house a private karaoke room in old shipping containers, vested-bartenders serve up strong cocktails in mason jars, giant TV’s play the game… Darts, Skeeball, Giant Jenga… The Punch Bowl Social really does it all to keep you active.

The “Bing-and-a-Bang” Special (ask for it by name) is all the time; a $6 Can of Blatz and shot of Jim Beam.  AND Free Darts!

The Bar & Craft Cocktails

The Punch Bowl Social is known for strong craft cocktails. Prices are pretty consistent with most downtown Minneapolis bars; around $9-11 for most craft drinks, and my personal favorite, the Adult Milkshakes.

We asked the head bartender who was visiting from Cleveland what the best deal was.

“Order rails. Punch Bowl Social uses nice rails for large, $6 drinks ($4 for Happy Hour) making them the best bet for a budget buzz.” He told us.

This smokey take on an old fashioned was 4 shots of booze.

Southern-Style Food

Southern-American Gastro Pub fare puts sandwiches and gourmet burgers (served with some of the best Fries I’ve had) at $10-13.

Entrees, like the Chicken-and-Waffles or Trout (pictured below) ring in around $17.  The Confit Ribs were succulent, fall-off-the-bone tender from an all-day braising in oil; clocked in at the highest price on the menu for $21.

The Fried Chicken on this chicken and waffles was by far the highlight! Salty, crisp, perfect.  Overall I thought the dish was a touch sweet, but I do love me some C&W.

My favorite dish; the Trout and Black-Eyed-Peas was crispy salted skin-on filet.
