Dave King Takeover
By Matt Dowgwillo - Nov 19, 2014
Why do we live in the Twin Cities? For me, the music, art, and culture here is unbeatable (well, that and the awesome happy hours…)
I’ve been looking forward to NOTHING more than seeing one of my favorite local musicians, who also, in my humble opinion, happens to be one of the most talented. He is also a riot to joke with. GET THIS ON YOUR CALENDAR NOW, BUY TIX, OR YOU’LL NEVER GET IN!
DAVE KING TAKES OVER THE ICEHOUSE THIS WEEK
That’s right! Halloween Alaska, Bad Plus, Happy Apple… these are just a few of Dave’s bands. So what happens when he takes over the Icehouse on Nicollet Avenue? ALL SHOWS AT THE ICEHOUSE.
Wednesday: Halloween Alaska
9:30pm show. $8 adv / $10 door
Halloween, Alaska (James Diers, Jacob Hanson, King, Bill Shaw) are finally getting some new music out, their 5th album to be exact. New material, some old, they are phenomenal musicians you won’t want to miss. They will be joined by instrumental group Lateduster, (featuring original members Andrew Broder, Martin Dosh, J.G. Everest and Brian Olson), which really doesn’t play out anymore, so it’s something you really won’t get to see again!
Friday: Gang Front/DKTB
10:30pm Show. $10 adv / $12 door
Dave King’s Trucking Band starts out the night, featuring Erik Fratzke on guitar, Adam Linz on bass and Brandon Wozniak on saxophone. In The Gang Font, a post-punk synth band with a similar sound to DKTB, but with King, Fratzke, and keyboardist Bryan Nichols and former Hüsker Dü bassist Greg Norton.
Saturday: Love-Cars Reunion / Red Daughters Release Party
10:30pm Show. $12 / $15
The Love Cars haven’t played in a while, but like all of King’s bands, they’ve got a big cult following and catchy alt-rock tunes to rival Wednesday’s show! Featuring King and Diers alongside guitarist Matthew Foust and bassist Alex Gaddis. This show is also an album release party for another favorite ThriftyHipster band, the Red Daughters, “Dealer” album.
Here is a little folky preview of that…
